Two of the North West's leading health & safety consultancy firms announce merger

Today marks the merger of SHEQ Health and Safety Consultants Limited, based in Cheshire, with Liverpool-based Health and Safety Consultancy, Aspen Thorn.

SHEQ Health and Safety Consultants was launched in 2018, providing a complete health and safety solution for customers wanting sound safety, health, environment and quality advice and services. The business was established by Paul Hughes, a well-known SHEQ leader.

Aspen Thorn was the brainchild of Anthony Melia – Group H&S Director at engineering & services firm, HE Simm, in 2012. He led it to become a safety, health, environment and quality consultancy, and training service provider with a broad customer base.

Anthony and HE Simm will hand the reins over to Paul Hughes, who will lead the newly formed business as its Managing Director. It will be known as SHEQ Aspen-Thorn.

Paul will be supported by a team of health, safety, environmental and quality professionals who are used to creating positive safety cultures and high-performance forward-thinking environments. He comments: “I am excited by this merger. Both businesses have become leaders in their field. Bringing them together will make us stronger, with a larger more experienced team covering a wider geographical and sector spread.”

Gareth Simm, CEO of the HE Simm Group adds: "Aspen Thorn was set up to meet our own SHEQ consultancy needs. Since then, it has done exactly that and more, but it has also developed as a reputationally strong, stand-alone business, becoming a partner to many well-known companies the length and breadth of the country."

The merger of Aspen Thorn with SHEQ Health and Safety Consultants paves the way for SHEQ Aspen-Thorn to become the go to consultancy of its kind in the UK

“The merger of Aspen Thorn with SHEQ Health and Safety Consultants paves the way for SHEQ Aspen-Thorn to become the go to consultancy of its kind in the UK. The company will continue to support the needs of our Group, but this opportunity paves the way for further growth, under Paul’s leadership."
